About the talk :
Plagiarism, or “the appropriation of another person's ideas, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit”, is currently a much-discussed issue in academic circles. In a case of Plagiarism there are clearly identifiable victims whose original contribution is being misappropriated, and the perpetrator is cheating these authors.
While we always worry about unauthorized access (during the refereeing process) to our manuscripts that are submitted to journals, we also need to worry about our ideas being plagiarized by others, and presented with clever word changes to avoid detection by current software. I shall discuss possible steps to protect our students from being targeted as helpless victims whose ideas can be plagiarized.
