Large-Scale Multimedia Digital Library Collections: Challenges and Research Opportunities

About the Talk : Technology advancements towards image acquisition, storage, and dissemination have fostered the creation of large image collections. In this scenario, there is a strong requirement for effective and efficient systems to manage those materials. In this lecture, I will address common challenges as well as research opportunities related to the design and the implementation of multim0edia digital libraries and associated services.
About the Speaker : Ricardo da S. Torres received a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from University of Campinas, Brazil, in 2000. He got his doctorate in Computer Science at the same university in 2004. He is Director of the Institute of Computing, University of Campinas. His research interests include Image Analysis, Content-Based Image Retrieval, Databases, Digital Libraries, and Geographic Information Systems. Ricardo Torres is member of RECOD lab http://www.recod.ic.unicamp.br). He is author/co-authors of more than 100 articles into refereed journal and conferences (see http://www.ic.unicamp.br/~rtorres). He serves as PC member for several international and national conferences. He also has supervised 20 master and 5 PhD projects.
