Afro-Asian
Introduction
Jawaharlal Nehru University Library has known for wide collection of foreign and regional languages this library fulfill the need of research scholars, faculty members and other government organizations and institutions. In this context the Afro-Asian Languages Section playing a very important and wide role to fulfill the need of research scholars and other users. Afro-Asian Languages Section provides a wide range of collection in different languages. Some Rare Collection also kept in this section. Jawaharlal Nehru University Library following Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme to classify documents and AACR II for cataloguing with MARC format. This library using Virtua software to make documents Machine Readable.
Collection
Afro-Asian Languages Section have a Wide collection of the Indian and foreign Languages books, about 50,000 books are available in Indian and foreign languages, including reference books, rare books and complementary collections of Bengali, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, and Rajasthani etc. Following Languages collections are as under:

Section open 8:00 a.m. and close 8:00 p.m. during the year in the exam period 8:00a.m. To 12:00 midnight.

We are providing following services to the users
Reference services
OPAC (online public access catalogue).Two computers are kept for catalogue search.
Tracing File (to trace the book/books later if book/books is/are not available at that time on the shelf).
Reading Hall
Centralize air condition reading hall of 24 users sitting capacity with calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Rare Books
Afro Asian Languages Section have a very good Rare collection of Arabic,Persian and Urdu books Like Tuzuk-e Jahangiri, Aaina-e Akbari, Geeta-e Manzoom Farsi, Shahnamah Firdausi by Abul Qasim, Bustan by Shiekh Sadi, 1895, Tuzk-e Babari etc.
